The Motorsport Requirements Thread

There has been a few people asking of late about what they need to do motorsport,
so this thread will list the standing basic requirements for various events.

You should always check the Supplementary Regulations prior to any event to ensure
you comply with all the requirements. These events are all run
under CAMS regulations, which you can get here CAMS Online Manual of Motor Sport

A 0% blood alcohol requirement applies to all motorsport.

It is suggested that you have done a number of other forms of motorsport before undertaking RallySprint.
i.e. Skidpans, tuning days, club run driver training days, as there is very little room for error on this type of course.
(Go on, ask me how I know)

Where to get stuff...

Fire extinguishers
Can be purchased at the usual auto stores. Look up a fire equipment supplier to get and get them checked/tagged.
They should be done every 6 months.
Go Gear can supply and tag if required.

Reflective Triangles
Again, the usual auto stores. They are about $15 each.

Battery Triangles
You can purchase sticker sheets for motorsport if you like, they aren't expensive, or just make your own.

Everyone should have one in the their car anyway.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of starting out.
If I have missed anything let me know, so I can update this post.

If anyone has any other questions relevant to starting out in motorsport, this thread is the place to post them.

Skidpan is not CAMS is it DC?

Also midvalve days which can be run with a standard license at times.

Classic Rally is AASA ?

Saint_23 11-03-2013 12:52 PM

Quite right TJ. RAC Skidpan/Tuning days isnt run under CAMS.
My bad.

AASA events tend to be one off's, I have tried to put details for the common series we tend to have.
And yes, Midvale events run by them usually only needs a drivers licence.

Master D 11-03-2013 12:53 PM

Skidpan is run by RAC - no competition licences required only a drivers licence.

With midvale it depends on the club running the event is classic rally uses AASA
Driving proficieny needs only drivers licence.

Fuel surge - the death of many dak daks, especially at Barbagallo, exiting Colb Corner (long track).

Make sure you have at least half a tank of fuel (preferably more). Better still, fit an anti-surge tank. Fuel is cheaper per litre than a re-build per litre.

No Limits are now also running a secondary event at their meets called "MiniGymi".

A mini motorkhana. It is held on the large hardstand behind the V8 pit garages at
Barbagallo at the same time as they are running the track.

All you need is helmet, long sleeves, long pants and closed in shoes.
$70 gets you plenty of runs. Plenty of room to pull skids.
First timers are encouraged. Anyone can enter.

Our own captain of skids ALEX runs these.

ALEX. 06-05-2014 11:50 AM

Nice one Dave.

I just want to emphasise that you don't require a fitted fire extinguisher for the MiniGymi, so just grab/borrow a helmet and you bring along any car you want!

NoLimitEvents 19-05-2014 12:59 PM

Thanks Dave for sharing the Mini Gymi info.

We also sell battery triangles for $5 at our events :)
