Targa Tas 2013

Hey all,

thought I might get a thread rolling for this years epic.

Prologue at Georgetown kicks off today.

Brendon (urabus) is over having a crack in his emo X. Best of luck to him.

There are some other WA contingent as well. (Searcy, Heaton, Rullo, Illman....not sure if there is anything from MM garage?) Hope they all have a good run as its a long way to go to be parked on the side of the road too early in the piece.

Targa live should be rolling soon. Is a good phone app too.

My pics, the unbackable YT in the lambo. Barring mech fail he will be hard to beat. Glenney might be a chance in the 35 GTR if it doesnt go bang. For once he wont have to drive at 110% like he did in the RX8 to keep up.

Early mod I reckon Hendy in the 34GTR is a chance.

In classic, I reckon the torries and pirhana will make a good start while dry in the east but crafty old Rex Broadbent will mow em down in the inevitable wet in the west. :)

Look forward to seeing it all unfold.

Good luck to all the WA boys over there!

Another West Aussie is Tim Wolfe in the 911 GT3 RS in the Modern class.
Hoping Brendon does well.

When are you going to build another car and have another crack at Blaise?

Have one in the pipeline now. :) A classic RX7 (moffat replica with modern fruit thrown at it) to have a play in classic. Will be one thing to build it though, another to afford to get it there and race it. But will be built to spec so this can be an option. Hopefully have it out doing local stuff by the end of the year.

Safe and rapid racing to all.

Blaise, MMS aren't running this year due to the crash of the Bathurst car which was to be leased out for TT which would have assisted the team to go over....a pity since I had put my hand up for service crew duties...bugger!
My regular co driver, Bruce Robins is running with Ben Matthews in an EVO VIII (951)....also Glyn Crimp and Paul Van Der Mey from WA in the Focus RS MkII (944).
Good luck to Brendo...

Thanks guys. Took it pretty easy today because we didnt bother doing recce for the two stages today as they dont count overall.

I cant emphasise enough to those at havent been how good this event is.

Hendy lasted 100m into the first stage in his R34 before something broke. We saw it up on the hoist at tyrepower as we drove by so hopefully it is an easy fix.

There are already 3 gtr's nursing problems and we havent even started proper yet. Given the length of the event (620km comptetive) versus something like targa west (<200) i cant get my head around going flat out from the first corner but inevitably that is what happens.

We have put the car on e85 this year and it is making some more power which is nice. We are also running some wider rubber but we havent done any testing with it so that will be interesting to see how that plays out. car certainly felt grippy today. however out of 21 targas there has only been 1 dry event. We also put a brand new transfer case in last week and have another one sitting there incase this one decides to crap itself like it did last year and like it did at targa west.

The field is down a bit this year on last year but there is still about 210 cars. Amazing array of cars from the 1930's up to brand new lambo's / porsches etc.

If you follow targa on facebook the give some good updates and post pictures of all the cars that inevitably decintegrate over the week.

Anyways the car felt really strong today and tomorrow the fun really starts!

Brendon
