burning rubber smell. help!!!

Well i was driving along and i smelt burning rubber. After investigating i found it to be here* but dont know where its coming from or weather its oil or brake fluid. So if anyone knows what it is and how severe it is as i have a test tomorow and have to drive from cannington to balcatta so i need to know if the car will survive and i can get to a workshop on tuesday. If anyone could help that would be awsome.

Thanks

Nick.

By the looks of the grease on the LHF drive shaft it is proberly a broken innner cv boot, although i cant really tell. If it is a cv boot then it will be ok to drive, but if you leave it long enough for the joint to run dry you will have to replace the joint not just the boot.

Hope this helped.

Tom

so it will be ok for tomorow?

i dont know if you can see from the pics but theres greese on the chassie to the left of the suspension bit and on the h brace on the right, the rubber thing is also melted through from the greese/oil

yeh the boot has proberly perished and cracked, letting out the grease, it should be ok to drive for a few days, though get it fixed asap.

Ok all sorted. Its gettint fixed at rms now. if anyone else gets this problem then just so you know it just means you replace that rubber part the cv is fine and you can keep driving it but youd want to get it fixed prity quick as your cv is more vunrable without the rubber and that costs a abit to get repaired and you will loose steering if it goes so you will need a tow truck as well.
