hey guys i drive a 98 club spec evo2.... was just curious to know when i wind out gears mainly 2nd and 3rd at the top end of the rev range i tend to hear a slight wine/ping sound....any suggestions to what it might be would help greatly?

no not like that...its more of a winey sound...high pitched......only occurs on the odd ocassion too.....not every drive????

Your description doesnt sound like its pinging!

I had a high pitched whining sound when i first got my car use to be loud when i boost it changed power steering fluids and its all gone it was heating up and making it whine now its all good.

But not sure if its that on your car . . .

mate if its just a wine it could something as simple as diff even, is it coming from engine bay or can u not tell?. you'll know pinging cos it sounds like scrunching up a potato chip packet. especially easy to hear when ur boosting against a wall eg, the cement walls on freeways....

correction: probly wouldn't b the diff, cos that would probly only hapen when coming on load eg, just as ur accelerating or right at the end of deccelerating.... but thats an example of wining

its def coming from engine bay area....i hang head out window while boosting and clearly hear it coming from engine bay area??... any chance it could be a problem with the turbo?....it is due for its service and oil/oil filter change veryyyyy soon??????

I sometimes get a whining sounds when im giving it stick....i usually drop her off at the next intersection

The sound of pebbles in your motor = bad i.e., ping

Lets hope its not that and just your lady...

probly not, but u could mayb check inside of ur cooler piping, if ur breathing lots fo oil it could b a turbo issue... not really sure
