fastest times won't win 'competitive' drag racing events....consistency does.

interesting, 'cause mainline operators seem to like dynoing 6 speeds in 4th instead of 5th too.

a lower gear tricks the figures, thats the only reason.

same reason some operators mount the air temp sensor near the headers for an increased hp reading for air-temp correction.

It doesn't matter what gear it's done in, as long as it's consistant. One of the reasons to do 5 speeds in 3rd and 6 speeds in 4th is to keep the road speed down to the 130-160kph range instead of 160-190kph. It's also the recommendation from the Mainline agents for Australia. Even running in the lower gear the Mainline dynos still seem to read slightly lower than PSI's DynoDynamics dyno that he used to have. My car ran 201kw on PSI and 195kw on Mainline.

Mainline dynos also have a weatherstation mounted above the console so it's not possible to fiddle with air temp compensation.

cool, aslong as the ratio is set to start with using 3rd gear, rather the calibrating it to 4th then doing a run with 3rd instead.

interesting about the external weatherstation, its about time they started doing it

I thought that one below last gear ie 4th on a 5 speed was the most accurate because of the whole 1:1 thing???
