Wow even I was impressed with the sheer technical content of this thread.... were we once an intelligent forum? Oh well guess we'll have to wait to ajayjay to log on to bring the standards back up....

cryotreating materials that have not been hardened or nitrited is a bit of a waste of time, and bear in mind when you make things harder and stronger they also become more brittle, so when it fails it just cracks through. a cryotreated gearset will be the same as driving a gearbox made of glass, the cogs will not absorb any energy from a bad shift and will snap teeth.
