Oil Pressure Sensor

Hey guys, just wondering, where is the pest place to install the sensor for oil pressure for a gauge, would it be just to drill into the sump and plug it in there? Or where have other people put theirs?

Mechanical i take it..

For GC8, so not sure if its similiar for your car.

Im sure everyone will say get an electronical one, however mechanical ones CAN be 100% fine provided you be sensible. First of all use DECENT fittings and decent lines. Definitely not that hard nylon stuff that comes with some gauges. Also make sure you use thread tape on the fittings. Last thing you want is leaks ;) Burning hot oil at 90psi... Ouch!

Under the alternator there is the oil sensor (on the block, drivers side). Remove the alternator (after a bit of practice i can now do it in about 10min :D) and on the drivers side there is a plug with the ECU oil sensor on it.. Unplug the sensor, 24mm socket (or maybe 22mm) and undo it. Then if you got the correct fitting with the line it should all "T" in nicely. Make sure you use thread tape and do it up tightly. Applies for both ends of the line (if mechanical of course). If the fittings dont "seal" properly, it can be bad, very bad!

Alternator goes back on fairly easy (like i said, for GC8...) and before putting on pillar mount, triple check there are no leaks. ESPECIALLY in cabin!

Sounds simple and it is if you know what goes where. Should only take an hr or so if all runs smoothly!

Dont know if the same applies to the newer cars. Unsure about Electrical gauges as well!

This will be the easiest way to install a pressure sensor (will also take oil temp as well)
and you will not not get a oil pressure reading from tapping into the sump as there is no pressure (some people use this for oil temp but i don't reccommend it).
