STI Oil filters... Whats the difference?

I just saw this on ebay last night. Its a pink STI oil Filter. Seems to be the genuine thing. Whats the difference between this and the usual one that sells for $15?

Whats the difference? It's pink! :D

Yep, and it'll look very pretty buried underneath your engine :D

I would suggest the only way to know how different it is, you will need to buy it and make up a test rig to test its flow properties.

Yeah i was looking at that earlier too.

It'll only stay on the car for 5000km. All of a sudden your oil change goes from $105 to $160 .. Not gonna bother.

I usually just get a Ryco which is pretty good quality so i'm told.

BALISTC 21-05-2007 01:53 PM

The Ryco filters are actually larger in diameter than the factory one, which means that they sit ever so slightly closer to the exhaust manifold.

A wrapped aftermarket manifold can actually rest against the Ryco filter, where as the stock filter clears it fine.

Use the stock one wherever possible, its only 3-4 dollars more than the Ryco.

I use them, I have a few used ones lying around if you wanna cut one in half to compare it to a normal one.

RichX 21-05-2007 02:17 PM

^^ Where do you get them and how much?

I don't like Ryco, they only screw on 2 or 3 turns before the 'O' ring is clamped. The Subaru OE filter is more like 8 turns of thread, better security.
