Need help on 2 problems!
Hey all,
Umm first problem would have happened on sunday. Now i am not a feind of thrashing my car, afterall its my pride and joy....bbuuuttt.. on the odd occasion i get a little excited with the throttle. Now my PowerFC temp. logs on my hand controller certain bits of infomation. One of them being knock. What i was wondering was, at 6400 rpm is a knock of 57 sposed to be good. I remember being told that a knock of 50-60 isnt too good although they didnt mention if thats under no/half/full throttle. My usual knock whilst driving normally is about 10-12 99% of the time. Second would be (at the same time) when on the throttle, going from 4th to 5th it grinds, would this indicate a failing clutch? Thanks in advance, Eric |

Arg, my precious gearbox lol.
Was trying to avoid having to open the gbox, as if i do, i will be going PPG. Spose ill just keep her under light load from now on, till i want to spend the 7k lol Thanks guys P.S. i take it 57 isnt good lol. |
With the gearbox, try a thicker grade of oil. It will make cold morning shifts a lot harder (stiffer) but will prob quieten down or eliminate the grinding noise.

I blew my gearbox going from 3rd to 4th at 4krpm so I would be carfull and that wasnt a fast shift either. My current gearbox has lasted me a long time and the syncros still feel good becuase I have treated it nice :D

Put redline LWSP in the gearbox eric, might help out a bit with the grinding, or slow down your changes :)

Yeah just seems high rpm changing from 4th to 5th. Nothing i cant just slow down anywayz. Next service might have to sort out a few good oils i can give my garage to put into the engine.
