Brake Fluid Recommendation
 
Hey all,

Just seeing what brake fluids people are running. Any feedback (positive and negative) will be most appreciated, as I am quite n00b on the subject.

I'm looking at something that will withstand good abuse at the track. However, is it better to just use a factory fluid and change more often, or go to the expense of a better fluid?

Castrol SRF
Extreme performance, silicon ester based brake fluid with a very high boiling point. Formulated for use in drum and disc brakes in competitive motorsport, including motorcycles, rallying, touring and Formula 1. Not for use in systems where a mineral oil is specified. :D :D

I use Elf Racing, working well so far.

I used elf in the old car and it was great. I am using AP in this one and it too has been great.

I am definately upgrading to braided brake hoses to get even better pedal feel.

I put in some Castrol Super Response or something along those lines. Dot 4 fluid. Got it for under $10 for 500ml.

Im happy with it for just a road car.

Theres another Castrol Dot 4 fluid in a red bottle. But its not as good apparently. for a couple buck more the silver bottle castrol fluid seems to do the job very well.

I use the same as well... i think the Castrol Super Response is actually Dot 4.1 but it doesn't make alot of difference. For sustained track work i really can't comment but i haven't had any fade or boiling issues from heavy street use and motorkhanas, although i do bleed the system before events.

No boiling/fade even after a hammering on the track (GC8 WRX) in conjunction with DBA 4000 discs and Ferodo DS2500 Pads.

PBR racing fluid 312 dry 195 wet
GS610 330 dry 216 wet
AP600 300dry 210 wet

Castrol super response is still just a DOT 4 ..... no such thing as a 4.1

i use any off the shelf dot4, and flush regularly... seems to get very expensive otherwise.

John, my recommendation for brake fluid is just "change it often".

I use the Castrol Red stuff, have found no improvement going more expensive.
Have done that many changes, I buy 6 bottles whenever it's on special.
Use the money you save for braided brake hoses!

Good brand like castrol motul or AP they all have a cheaper version than the top dollar fluid and as others have said change regularly coz all fluid degrades over time not just the cheaper stuff and put the savings into a set of braided lines.

Ended up getting a few bottles of Castrol Response Super Dot 4 .. Not as good as RBF600 on paper, but still half decent.

286C Dry, 184C Wet.

RBF600 is 312C Dry, 216 Wet.
