Idling issues

Hi All,

I just had my car tuned by Lane at RT last week. RT also put in a fuel pump and silicone intake hoses. The car has also just had an RMS full 3" TBE fitted (before the tune)

Everything was fine up until today when I went to the AHG Drive Day with the WRX Club. This was the first time since I've had the car done to give it a workout. After a few runs the car started to idle rough on startup and even stalled a couple of times. I stopped for the day and went home. On the way home the CEL came on and then I also noticed that the cruise control button was flashing on and off and wouldn't work  The car runs fine when driving and only idles rough a little, but since the CEL has come on and the cruise control doesn't work I assume something is not right.

I'm guessing it's the AFM, but the cruise control?? Any ideas??

I'll give Lane a call tomorrow too check it out. What a bitch of a time for it to happen too, I've got my car booked in to the panel shop tomorrow to remove a tiny dent in the rear bumper - I've been waiting 6 weeks to get into the panel shop and now I'm gunna have to cancel to get the CEL sorted.

Cheers

i would know bout da AFM, jus spray it with contact cleaner, does the job for me.
If it idles goes up and down and isnt smooth den give it a go.

Best to take it back to RT to get a ECU check for codes. Subaru would just blame it on the TBE or CAI.

pmh: Throttle position sensor makes sense, could explain why the cruise control isn't working as well as the rough idling.

(Don't know why your post isn't showing?)

yeai was askin subaru bout my rough idle they had a winge that i had a3 inch tbe. they recon that fucks things around coz most ppl aprently dont put an oxygen sensor back in and a new one a seperate temperatre sender i narrowd down to throttle position sensor or the amf sesor. tomoro i dipping the amf sensor in some metho spirits and see how that goes then i will check the throttle postion sensor with an ohm meter. i aslso use a bit of genise upper engin cleaner (that makes big difference if got a dirty throttle body good to clean out every now and again.

Spelling and punctuation are your friends...with the added bonus that everybody else reading it can understand what you're saying...

I'm going to RT tomorrow (Lane's been in Japan), haven't used the car since the idling issues last Sunday. So tonight, I went and had a good look under the bonnet. And what do I find? A hose that is not connected. Don't know what hose it is, but it's small, about 5mm in diameter and is right on top of the engine at the front, it's (meant) to be connected to an L shaped metal pipe (as you can see, I'm no mechanic).

So this hose is just hanging loose, so before I reconnect it I start the car - still idles like shit. I turn it off and reconnect this hose, turn the car back on and it idles fine. So I take it for a drive come back and sit in the driveway. Well, the STi just sits there purring away beautifully.

I both happy and pissed and the same time. Happy that I think I've found the problem, but pissed that RT didn't reconnect all the hoses when they did the work. Shit happens and hopefully it's all sorted.

I'll still take it in as I need them to check the CEL that is still on and clear it if all is well. The cruise light is still flashing, but I hope it's still related to the CEL.

I know how you feel, I had my stereo installed to my car and started having problems with the engine just cutting out. Finally got the car home after three goes and found they hadn't connected the seatbelt wiring harness to the seatbelt so the car thought it was getting hi-jacked. With hoses and intensive work on your vehicle it doesn't hurt to just check over your engine usually you have seen your engine enouf to know what doesn't look right

Sounded similar to my problem, had to send the Ecu to the UK. Sounds like you have found the problem though.

I also had a split in this ecact hose your talking about.

Have also had the actuator hose from the turbo split.

Hi PigSTi,

Hmmm, your ECU was sent back to the UK?? Shit I dont wanna hear that!! Hope all's well now for you. Do you know what the hose I'm talking about is for??

Cheers
