Dud Dayco Cambelts

I fitted a Dayco cambelt today and found the white lines had been incorrectly marked one tooth out. See from the picture of the old and new side by side. I double checked the tooth count with the workshop manual and found it should have 51.5 teeth between the marks, this belt was 50.5. Beware DIY'ers always trust the marks on the engine and don't rely on the markings on Dayco belts.

Or, just use a genuine timing belt :)

Thats a bit of a worry but why not just stick with genuine belts?

Perhaps it was a mis marked belt meant for another engine?

I've never had problems with quality non genuine belts and they're substantially cheaper. There is only one belt for all quad cam EJ engines so it's the right one. In fact the old belt in the picture is the same part number as the new one.

have you got the belt on the right way? writing should face the other way i think(or look at arrows). I can't remember wat belt i used but i didn't get it through subaru. I really doubt they would have the wrong amount of teeth on them unless its for the wrong car.

actually on the subject, i was looking at the service intervals for the timing belts according to the chart at malz a few months ago and i noticed on there that they recommended the belt change at 100k for all but the forrester, that was recommended for 150k.. they are essentially the same engine...

perhaps they think the average WRX driver may bea little harder on components than the average fozzie driver :D :D :D
