Spec C cams

Hey,

I was wondering if its worth it to change my stock MY03 cams with spec C (JDM 06 STi) cams? Interested in the ones for sale ..

What are the differences in duration between the MY03 WRX and Spec C cams?

Cheers
-Nick

Not worth it. Will cost you thousands in labour, plus heaps in setting up valve clearances (which may require new buckets).

You can spend the money you save on other mods that will get you useful gains.

If your motor is out of the car, different story.

Yeah ive heard that labour would cost heaps on installing cams.
Well ive pritty much done all the basic bolt ons and just looking for more ..
got the bigger i/c, 3" tbe, CAI, 16G with verso, next would be headers, twin dump and retune .. just dunno what to add after that.

Any suggestions?
(went completely off topic to the title! Could a moderator or someone with power maybe change the title to something like ' Next mod suggestion '?)

Search 'next mod' and it will probably bring you the second highest thread count following 'Verso'.

What do you hope to achieve? How much further do you plan to push the car? Invest in its health first - Any more power might see you needing a new fuel pump at least.

What have you decided on ECU wise?

oh i have sti 550cc's and a walbro 500hp pump, didnt mention it because assumed you guys would assume when i mentioned the turbo. I was thinking of just sticking with verso and retuning it but if i was to go stand alone, i would look into an autronics.

im looking to achieve around 220-230kw atw at MAX, its just a standard 205 with stock internals so im unsure if that power would be safe or even achievable on it?
I was told my dump wasnt too good and restricting my power on my first tune so i wanna get a twin dump(either BPM or xforce) rather than one with just a seperating plate, headers(looking at either true equal xforce ones or gt spec) and bigger cams, maybe 264's(later, after getting the exhaust done well).

Ive got a HD clutch already so that should be able to hold the power quite well.

cams help an engine breathe, they are as important as an air intake and exhausts- so its a complimentary modification that makes all other breathing modifications work more efficently, the only way to breathe more without cams is upping the boost.

by my calcs, the 06 spec-c Inlet cam is a 270 duration, 8.9mm lift.

i agree cams seem to be a mod that gets over looked with wrx's .....
I am getting cosworth cams put in my 02 sti soon so i will be able to tell you guys how well they go with a 2ltr have been told they make the car so much better to drive off boost

Thats about right, Stace.

They should help improve the torque and power for any Subi, because stock cams are very very mild.

My intake cams are 9.6mm lift and 278 duration, which are a big jump over the stock MY02 cams. Not sure what the exhaust cams are, but definitely more aggressive than the intake (exhaust normally are).

The engine has a big hit of torque when the turbo comes onto boost, without being too undriveable off boost...feels stronger off boost than before too.

It also idles at 1100rpm now, which isnt excessive. Sounds great though, with the equal length headers it has the rumble of the standard headers, with the unevenness that a set of big cams provide.

Go too big though, and it starts to get undriveable.

You will be paying anywhere from $1500-$2000 by the time you pull your heads off buy Tuna's cams and setup them up and port the intakes on heads. Then there are costs for gaskets and labour to remove and re-fit.

heads off only if you upgrade the valve springs,

upgrade the valves springs only if you increase the revs/boost.
