Could always get another stock ecu and swap at the same time as the exhaust. Don't know for sure but I would assume all the info changed with the tune would stay on that ecu.

Nope no yellow sticker or switching of ECU's.

I was just looking into some options on making the car a bit quieter and this thought came into my mind. Kinda the reverse of what most people do (i.e. stock tune with large exhaust) and made me think what would happen.

im most prob bout to do something like this. thinking of running 80mm to the diff - where iv sourced a quiet Trust MX muffler that I think has 70-75mm inlet. looks like the original Sti one with a bigger tip

make it quiet = heat wrapping or ceramic coating - and no change to flow

John for what's worth, when I sold the verso tuned pig sti I took off the 3" trust cbe cannon and reverted it to stock sti exhaust. I drove maybe 50 kms like this and there was no perceived performance difference to me. The pig was quiet as but still pulled much smoother and harder than it did pre verso tune w/ cbe installed. For the record Sean did a very safe tune and still got 187 kw atw with the very restrictive stock sti dump pipe on it.

been there done that...

you cannot substitute the overall diameter and muffling of a larger muffler and small piping for some coating and wrapping.

Hey RichX I think the supposed quicker boost/more torque that MSR talks about is because of 2.5" piping (versus 3") in the diff-back section. While I'm anything but an expert, I think it's because the exhaust gases stay hotter in that smaller area and thus scoot out of the way faster - I don't think there's any actual increase in back-pressure. Apparently 2.5" is good enough for at least sub-300HP applications, if not more.

MSR sent me a note about this, and as he wrote: (snipped)

http://www.airpowersystems.com.au/us...wrx-hoe-r2.htm

R1 and R2 use the same system but the R2 has 2.5' diff back, note that pressures are the same up to 525hp when using a cat.
