Default Larger s/h TMIC vs waterspray

Hey all,

Just a quickie. I have a MY98 wrx with standard TMIC...which is the one of the smallest made from memory. Which is going to be better, adding waterspray to existing TMIC or getting a larger s/h TMIC off a 99/00 or 01+ wrx? Budget seems to be around $250 for both options.

Not trying to make a weapon (otherwise I'd get FMIC and new turbo), just get a bit of extra go, although new turbo is an option down the track. To be fitted on wrx with CAI and 3" turbo back exhaust. Once this issue is decided upon I will be adding silicone IC pipes and getting link PnP (which I already have) installed and tuned.

IMHO you will benefit more from a larger or more efficient TMIC than from installing waterspray. For 250 you may be lucky and find a GD 01+ TMIC, check the different sizes available - the later STi models i think have the larger coolers.

just looking through the Malz catalogue today .. they have windscreen washer pumps "from $13.50" and washer reserviors which include tube, switch & wiring kit "from $23.50"

Couple of cheap nozzles from bunnings or a nursery and you'll have a $40 IC spray kit

You probably won't notice much difference in this weather going either larger TMIC or waterspray, but IMHO I think you'll see a much bigger difference with waterspray during hotter weather. A larger TMIC can act as a larger interwarmer by soaking up the heat when you're sitting at the lights. For city peddling, I reckon waterspray could potentially yield more results that could be felt.

Just my 2¢

Thanks for your opinions so far.

Will probably do cheap DYI waterspray as well as larger TMIC.

Can anyone here who has fitted a 01+ TMIC into a MY98/99 post details about how hard this swap is please. I know it isn't a straight swap, but is possible. Also, as I'd be getting silicone kit for it, does an 01+ kit to fit the IC fit onto the MY98 intake?

I remember that 1 or 2 people have done this and posted it on the old pwrx forums, but we can't access that info anymore.

Cheers
Richard
