Continuous Check Engine light
 

Any guru's on line feel free to respond.

Took an MY06 CS9 out for test drive this morning....sale pending satisfactory inspection and test.

Has had a flat battery for past 3 days, charged overnight. I let it warm up kept of boost and just ran smooth. Once warm pushed it pretty hard but no redline.

After couple strong runs to 6000rpm, check engine came on. No drop in power car drove beautifully. Pulled up and switched car off for minute and back on but light still there.

They're taking to auto sparky to get CEL checked. Any thoughts off top of head...would low battery charge cause CEL to kick in? Bugger all fuel in it too so low fuel pressure?? No rpm drop though.???

Any mods Paul or is it stock as a rock?

Is it at a dealership? Best thing to do is get a dealer to plug Subaru Select Monitor in and find out exactly whats throwing the CEL. They should do this free of charge, as its under warranty still.

Could be anything really!

CEL should be checked by a Subaru Select Monitor as said...a dealer or (most) Subaru workshops can do this (eg MMS, ASG, RMS etc).
Also it is possible to get CEL errors if the ECU has been reflashed...these are usually cat related and can be easily fixed.

I dont see how it can flag up a cel if its been disabled? :)

Modifying the routine ususally means its never going to come back up again as the check value has changed. Assuming its a CAT related code, other codes such as TGV reference a bank / voltage check.. but again those can be eliminated with some knowledge.

But you are right, definately get a workshop or dealership to investigate the cause of the error. In some causes a CEL will disappear as part of its "drive cycle" if the error is nothing serious.

Paul says its stock as a rock. Any more idea's?

I would take it as a given that a car which has been reflashed would have an exhaust. I had vice versa (exhaust only) for a couple of years on my '02 STi and there was never any CEL issue.
But I am certainly no expert on the electronics of ECU's...it was merely a suggestion Pete.

I didn't mean it that way...

I just threw in the extra guff so that it made more sense as to why i didn't think it was that. It wasn't a "scolding" kinda post, merely an answer with a bit of background... i'll keep quiet now.
