Default Racecomp Engineering coilovers for gc8

Hey guys I’m just going through the steps of the install for my new Racecomp Engineering Tarmac 2 Coilovers. Just thought I’d make a blog kind of style post on the forums for any others who might try to fit the same suspension.

And here they are!

First of all the company that makes these awesome coilovers: RaceComp Engineering

The parts combination is..

1: Racecomp Engineering Tarmac 2 Coilovers, independant bump and rebound adjustable.
2: Cusco rear camber adjustable strut tops
3: Whiteline camber/castor adjustable strut tops

My spring rates are 345/240 which are optional, with 400/340 being standard.

The top nut for the coilovers is 12x1.25 but I somehow managed to click 14x1.25 when I ordered the tops... doh.

The new top nuts where 200 yen each (from greenline), so I just ordered some more through them.

The first problem was that the Cusco spacers are WAY too big for the gap in-between the top spring seat and the strut top bearing. Using two washers, one washer to sit on the top of the spring seat to take up the rest of the flat bit on the piston shaft just before the thread and cover the top of the spring seat, then a small washer that sits flush with the bearing allowing the bearing to fully rotate without hitting anything.

This is a comparison of the size difference in my setup versus Cusco's, my washers are even a tiny bit thinner then this.. but not much.

Here are the brand new Whiteline developed Strut tops (specifically made for GC8). The slots provide the max adjustment for the spring clearance to the body... there minimal/no room left hence why you cant go for max castor and camber at the same time, and why the slide of the bearing is the way it is to give max of one while giving max posible of the other. Also being Whiteline they bolt straight on with no worries at all!

And here is the final product, all ready to be installed!

I cannot thank Myles and Andrew from RaceComp enough for their help and understanding in all my questions, their customer support is outstanding... i cannot recommend them enough to you guys!

Also a big thanks to Tuspeed who organised the Whiteline strut tops for me at a great price and very quick delivery!

the solid external resovoir intrigue me, surely they would foul? there must be a reason why every other manufacture has them on a soft tube so you can mount them out of the way?

They should sit opposite to the brake caliper, and the wheels normal turning arc is more then covered by this.

I thought they looked familiar. They are a KW shock that Race Comp has reworked. (Have a close look at the sticker on it.) Exactly the same shock body as my KW's.

I've got the KW Variant 3's on the Evo. Have served me well. Well priced dual adjustable coilover.
