Timing belt woes

Hey, i have just tried to do my timing belt and had a problem.

I followed the instructions word by word, however when i got to the stage of taking it off. The two cams on the right spun as i pulled the belt away.

I have just looked at the cams on my other stuffed motor and when the notches are positioned correctly, all the valves on the right were not closed, whereas they're closed on the left side of the motor. I suggest this as the reason it spun on the right.

They spun quite fast about 180 degrees both of them. I didnt hear any metal on metal action, but i fear the worst.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do?

Should i just try turn them back the way they came?

Thanks,

Coci

happens all the time when doing timing belts, i wouldnt worry about it. Just put them back where they were :)

is it possible? they have marks that have to line up with the timing covers and marks that line up with the marks on the pulley's.

Would run a bit strange though :)

All arrows at 2 o'clock then line up the marks. The Passenger side always spin, the valves will not hit anything as they are closing when the cams spin and if you have the crank lined up properly the pistons are halfway down the bores.

dont worry they dont spin hard it sounds worse than what it is, they just spin a 1/4 of a turn just turn it back put the belt on , turn it over by hand to make sure nothing hits and you'll be fine

if it wasnt brought up now, I probably would have in about a week when I do my timing belt. My baby is all grown up, 6 figures on the odometer now :D

least u didn't have to do it twice. this is a defiant. MAKE SURE THERE'S A DECENT CAP FROM THE GUIDE TO THE BELT OTHERWISE IT WILL CHOP OUT THE BELT. get some line lockers helps hold the passenger cams pulleys together.
