Default Which fluids do you use?

Just out of curiousity, as i plan to do my own fluid changes in the near future.
I have a 2005 WRX STi, with 2400km on it, and i'd like to do some maintenance soon.
I plan to do my own oil changes, however i'm not sure what's best to use.
Also keen to know what brake, clutch, transmission, diff oil's etc people are using. I've talked to the Subaru dealers, and of course they recommend their own fluids. I'd just like to know what other people are using and their opinions.

My car is just a street car (at the moment), and completely stock.

Cheers

Huy

Mobil for the engine Castrol for the gearbox/diffs as for specific viscosity etc have a look in the manual as it tells you.

or some other braniac on here will be able to enlighten you

brake and clutch fluid really depends on what you plan to do with the car as its a fairly generic type of thing for road use..
but if you want to get on the track look at racing fluids AP racing make one and im sure other oil companies do aswell

Thanks,

Yeah, i plan to do some track work later, so i'll look into those race fluids down the line.

I know the specific viscosity for my STi, just wondering what others were using.

5W-30 is what's recommended for MY05STi engine oil - 5W40 or 10W40 in summer's not a bad option if you intend flogging it during the hotter months. It's a bit early to start worrying about other fluid changes IMO.

I use Motul Chrono 300V 10W-40 in the motor.
plan to use Motul in gearbox, brakelines etc once they need replacing.

Fred are you sure Subaru recommend 5W-30 seems abit thin to me.

yep - apart from being stated in our manuals, i did an extensive ring around to Subaru, most of Perth's leading tuners/workshops, S&J, MRT, STi Docklands, etc, etc - whilst the consensus wasn't unanimous, 5W-30 was the majority choice for our models.

It's what they put in to start with.

Stick with the factory weight recommendation. If it ain't broke no need to fix it. Gearbox and diff could do with an upgrade. Redline has its pro's and con's, a search will explain further. Otherwise a good quality gear oil will work well.

A bottle of Art Series Shiraz goes down nicely, but make sure you top up with water afterwards so you can go onto the Cullen afterwards...

For cars, go with what EXPLICIT said.
