GD Suspension Set Up
 

Hi all,

Just curious what other GD users have for their suspension setup, as for some reason I want to blow more money on my car :D.

I'm looking more toward those people who use their cars as a daily driver and a weekend warrior (i.e. something smooth enough for daily bumpy roads - yet can be focused for a bit of hooning around a track)

Currently I'm running the Tuned by Arai 4 way adjustable struts w/ Arai STi Pink Springs and 22mm front and rear Whiteline sway bars. Loving the adjustablilty of the Arai struts (soft for daily, harder for track), but looking to see what else is out there and what feedback people may have on them.

I'm running HSD Type HRs, which I've found to be excellent....they are actually OEM for a well known Jap brand of coilover (which I won't mention).

Knowing you though John, you'd be looking for the ultimate....so why not aim for a set of Ohlin's, Zeal's or something like a Cusco or JIC coilover, or something else similarly high end and well built? :) KW Variant 3's come to mind also.

Apart from that, I've got a bunch of Whiteline gear in my car, and I love it:

22mm front sway
24mm rear sway
Swaybar links
ALK
Front underbody brace
Steering rack bushes
Rear diff outrigger bushes

I'm also fitting up the fender braces I've had sitting on my bench for over 12 months, and I'm looking at a roll centre kit.

I believe that as it is, its the best compromise between handling and comfort...its very tolerable on the street, but it still handles sensationally.

Any more work on it and I think it might become too hardcore for the use of the car, which is a well tuned streeter.

make sure you get HD links front and rear, make a world of difference

Yeah you know me too well :D I've been looking at some coilovers recently (Cusco Zero2e gotta love in car adjustability, Ohlins and KW's) but don't want to install something and it is too hard for a country drive.

Also looking at swapping out sways as I'm thinking of moving to a soft suspension setup with bigger sway bars.

P.S. for those mentioning, I've got every other conceivable brace, bracket, link you can poke a stick at. :D

Skids on! :) Wish I had time to smash an alignment in prior... oh well I'm only attempting to do skids this time :D

In my wagon I have:

22mm front sway
24mm rear sway
HD Swaybar links
ALK
HKS Hipermax III coilovers
Camber bolts

Handles awsome.. I did each mod one by one, and the one that made the most difference was the coilovers - totally transformed.

Going to transfer as much as I can into my sti along with the spec c control arms I have for some more caster

get coilovers !

John, currently my sti is dead stock...Am aiming for a mostly street setup but something that will not be ghey on a track...

S204 struts and springs (adjustable)
Cusco F and R sways
Front strut brace (Cusco)
Cusco front underbrace thingy (Type 2 if peteys kept it for me!!)

I think thats it actually...so not that much but should be good.

Check out racecomp engineering's tarmac2 coilovers, that they use the KW variant 3's as the basis of. I was going to get these until I picked up some used whiteline g4's from here.

They posted in the vendor section around xmastime I think... and I think someone from here is using the GC8 version of their coilovers as well.

They seem to follow the softer-spring / better damping school of thought.

Hydraulic handbrake - Do it!

Whilst technically not a suspension component, it does improve turn it ;-)
