ok had RAC around to have a look, they say its the starter motor, I know its no biggy was just looking forward to driving her today of all days and if anyone does want to make the drive to help me I'd love it. I wanna try n do the work myself but I'm not mad and will take help. I'm thinking rebuild is best bet and doesnt look like its too hard to get out since there's no TMIC coz I have a FMIC, blow off valve is maybe in the way tho but I think I can work around it.

Happy birthday mate!

does the starter motor click when you try and start it? (this is the starter solinoid engaging)

Did the RAC hit it with a hammer, sometimes if you hit it while trying to crank it will start for you and get you where you want to go.
i think the jolt knocks the worn brushes to make the electrical circuit.

Steven.

ok um got ball park quote to replace it... $300 and he said prob'ly about the same to rebuild maybe a bit less. looking at prices you guys put up there ^^ Does that sound excessive? Its a my99 with an ej207. And that price isn't including installation I'm doing that bit.

Sorry guys if it seems like I'm asking stupid questions but I'm learning from scratch so there are gonna be a few of them.

Hey Fox
Auto electricians are a bit dear for parts like that,
Last one I got for a toyota was $120 new from autoone
cant remember if that was exchange or not but that doesnt matter.
try phoneing all the auto shops around town ( repco, autoone, discount auto parts, super cheap, etc )
have you tried genuine ( its worth a call - some genuine stuff is reasonable priced )
also worth giving the wreckers a call for a second hand one.

and Happy Birthday for the other day
sorry to hear of your misfurtune on your b/day but im sure you will make up for it.

is this the correct one

normally you can whack the solinoid contactor and it fixes the problems with them.

if it continues, generally easier to buy a second hand one. pay $80 tops, $100 if they are greedy.
