Timing belt

Should i get it change at 100000 kms or anytime soon?
car is 99 , engine just done 50000 kms

and if i have to change it now, what is the reason for not changing at 100000kms instead..

I dont think you have to worry for the time being. 100K kms is the general guide :)

Sti_Ra 24-10-2005 04:24 PM

yes in the manual book it says 100000kms or 4 yrs, not sure what to do...

anymore info guys???

I guess take a look at the belt, see if its a bit worn and frayed.

anymore info guys???[/QUOTE]there's heaps of guys with 99/00's who havn't yet reached 100,000kms nor changed their timing belt.
considering you've only done 50, you should be fine!

I think you have to consider the age of the belt too, not just how many kms they've done. You can have a set of belt sitting around for 4 years in sunlight thats done 0kms and I wouldn't be using them.

Remember, rubber goes off with age and start to crack etc...

i would have to agree with technik_wrx, do the timing belt every 4 years or 100,000km, cheap insurance for your engine.

yeah, make sure your rubber is up to scratch or else it could be a very costly mistake

(you can read that in so many ways and the outcome is pretty much the same!)

I'm in the similar situation. The car has only done 40000km, but she's 5yr old. I will change the timing belt, but just wondering if I need replace idlers, tensioner and cam/crank seals, maybe even water pump?

Thanks in advance.
