Default 207 vs Tomei 2.2

In process of upgrading and would like an opinion on whats better perfourmance wise.

Tight on budget so trying to get the best out of my dollars while trying to get the most HP out of the motor

Would be good to know your opinion on the Tomei 2.2 on 205 short motor as theres lots of good feed back on the 207 .

No point flogging the 205. It is inherently weaker and always will be.

If you're building a Tomei 2.2 with your 205 block, you'll need to budget for block prepping i.e. sleeving.

Most HP out of the motor, 205+2.2 , just a 207 or 205 with the forgies......could have added the last one in but didnt think it will be any good.

An advantage for a 205 built with forgies is you get to select what forgies you use. When you consider a built motor of a high calibre, it most often will have larger cams. Now I don't know what the piston to valve clearance is at TDC in an EJ20x but should you have some high lift/long duration cams going in at least you can order some pistons to match in a 205 build so you don't smash all your valves

EDIT: I mean whats the point of buying a more expensive 207 for it's forgies only to end up having to swap pistons anyway??

Thats what i was considering building the 205 with the 2.2 and while at it throw in the rest cams, cam shafts and what ever else i can ..

I thought the 207 was a Semi-closed deck with the foerged internals or Semi-forged ?

if i was you i would go the tomei build, the stroker kits seems to deliver a hell of a lot for the money.

wasn't that long ago these same kind kits would retail for double this amount.

this way you too can have bad japlish on your mod sheet, poncam and expreme!

The 207 is good value for money and a proven performer, however more capacity and stroke will make you more torque and possibly power .... how long is a piece of string ?, how fast do you want to go and how much money do you have ? How long do you want it to last ?....I could go on..

Power is made from the block upwards anyways(or block outwards in the case of a subi !)

Don`t know what the above stuff about piston-valve clearances is about but all 96/97 on Turbo EJ`s have virtually the same piston deck hieght and head chamber volume, and big cams has never been an issue with 207`s AVCS, non AVCS/whatever, older heads newer heads etc etc ...its not like its a high compression n/a engine, its got a hairdryer for cylinder pressure
