Clutch questions. - Not a "which clutch?" thread.

Ok, my current clutch shudders like i do when i see a fat chick in a mini skirt. Absolutely un-launchable. And its slipped twice on me during a hard booting.
So its time to go. Plus i've got a lightweight flywheel i want to bung in.

So here are the questions:
What determines the heaviness of the pedal? My current one is heavier than a post steak house poo, and i love it. It stops people who normally might like to take it for a spin from doing so.

Also, how hard is it to change yourself? Im pretty mechanical minded and i've got tools. Is it a two person job? And is there a guide anywhere?

And finally, the Exedy Organic is definately the recommended choice for a 5 speed?

Heaviness is dictated by the stiffness of the diaphragm in the pressure plate, and also its pivot point i.e. the closer the pivot point is to the centre of the pressure plate, the stiffer it's going to be.

IMHO, Exedy Sports Tuff is the best value for money clutch. The best part is, its brand new i.e. its not a rebuilt clutch. You can pick them up from Northern Brake and Clutch in Victoria for damn cheap (they are on eBay, I got mine from there), and just get a good workshop here to install it.

Easy to do yourself if you have half a brain, but pretty tough without a hoist. You'd also want to use a clutch alignment tool to prevent f*cking it up.

you can also adjust the heavyness by altering the piston/bore diameters of the slave and master cylinders. they change between years of subarus.

So depending on which clutch is already in my car, putting in a Sports Tuff, should the pedal feel be the same?

the sports tuff gives you a brand new pressure plate, it wont be any-worse then what you have installed at the moment. but it is definately stiffer then stock.
