switching from fmic to top mount
guys i got a fmic on my sti atm and i want to go back to a top mount. not fussed but would prefer a bigger than stock top mount.
my question is if my car has a unichi and is tuned to 180kws what would the affects of replacing fmic with a standard sti or aftermarket topmount??? any input? btw it is a 99 v5 sti |

Lose a bit of overall power .. gain some response? Get a waterspray setup working too.

iv just done this on my 03. I dont think i'd ever go back to be honest, the difference in drivability is amazing.
There is actually not alot of difference between a 02+ STi top mount than a huge aftermarket. The performance benefits are next to nothing, dont trust all the hype - as iv yet to see a proven dyno result or a proper test. water spray is a good idea. You ecu would require a retune to possibly pull back some timing, but you could run without. |

My son recently did this to his 2 door STI & it's got an FP green & Autronics, I'm driving it atm & it still runs quite well without a tune.
In all honesty I'd have a later GD STI top mount modded to suit, I've got a GD WRX one on my V3 STI it's much bigger than the one you have & the STI is even bigger, you'll need a clutch reservoir($50 at JWS) brackets (I think I've got a spare set) & possibly some welding mods at the BOV.

Just out of curiosity ( Mostly mine ) Race Torque swapped the STi top mount in the Pig for a larger aftermarket one ( can't remember the brand but one of the better ones ).
It reaped a whole..... Now Wait for it > > > 1KW more. Needless to say we stuck with the stock one. Just go the STi one and be done with it.

I had a cheap chinese spec big top mount--swapped for a process west and added the sti splitter - picked up 10hp a.t.h. - certainly the splitter would have help gain some - if not all of that powa!

STi TMIC, Splitter to ensure no air gets past the TMIC, and even distribution, Big Scoop, and waterspray.
Best TMIC setup possible. Would be interesting to see a comparison result between and STi TMIC and PW TMIC.
