Diagnose my problem Part 89:

So drove my car to work today, no issues at all. Parked it outside.

Jumped back in about 5 hours later, started it up no issues. Reversed out and went into first and started going, it surged a bit. I thought i had let the clutch out a bit too quick or something. No biggie. Kept on driving down the road, car kept on surging. Basically it was surging the whole way home, it wouldnt drive properly. I didnt see any smoke or anything. The car also idles fine.

Im guessing water got in somewhere and is causing the gremlins?

HELP! i need my car back, this tarago sucks balls!

Surging can be caused by many things....

Fuel filter clogged, maybe even the sock filter in the tank.

Dirty Fuel injectors.

Knock sensor on its way out causing the ECU to retard timing - Happened to me last week. Although my knock sensor was new, it kept on getting set off by the tappet noises in my lifters. A fresh service fixed that. In your case although, the WRXs dont suffer from noisy lifters, so Id check your knock sensor for cracks in the casing. A dying or cracked knock sensor can become overly sensitive and will be set off by just normal engine noise.

Dying Ignition coils - I also had this problem. New set of Bosch Coils fixed that right up. Early WRX are getting to that age where the coils start to die. Same kinda deal you get with RS Liberty. Dying coils causing misfires and all sorts of shit.

Post AFM intake leak - unlikely, but worth checking out. If you,ve still got the TMIC, your car will be getting to the age where the craptastic plastic turbo to TMIC hose may have become brittle and formed a crack. Happened to me also way back when I still had the RS WAIC. New Samco turbo to IC Silicon hose fixed it up. If it turns out to be this, the Samco Part no is: TCS-22. Order it from the UK. RallyNuts website or something. Will cost you around $130 IIRC landed. flows much better than the OEM one too.

Thats All I got. Just going off shit that has happened to my car, as mechanically, both my car and yours are pretty much identical.

Another idea that was been pushed is a wet afm. I'm going to take it apart when i get home.

Ignition coils are still the stanard items. Before this incident, i was experiencing at random times flat spots higher in the rev range. Any way to test my coils?

I don't think it would be an intake leak, but i'll have a squizz anyways. If it is the IC plastic IC pipe, ill probably just put forward my FMIC install.

Will also look at fuel related jiggy's (filter and what not)

That's where I'd be going with the flat spots up high in the revs and the surging. Def sounds fuel delivery related.

try fuel filter, just replace with a real subaru one as a first thing to try out. cheap 3rd party fuel filters are notorious for causing surge problems.

I say give your coil a clean..moisture in there.
