Hi guys,
Could anyone tell me what is the standard boost PSI for My98 WRX? And what is the safe boost if I want to boost up. The only mod I have is the intake and exhaust.
Thanks!
I had a MY98 with exactly the same mods as you and my boost gauge read 14.5psi

mr_psi 18-10-2008 12:21 AM

i think the standard for a my98 is 13.5 psi

Cooper89 18-10-2008 11:06 AM
i think the standard for a my98 is 13.5 psi
And you would know.... Mr psi....

V3 RA 18-10-2008 01:47 PM

its just under 1 bar 14.3 psi or something very close

HSMF 18-10-2008 05:32 PM

Hi Prodigy, did your WRX running the standard boost at 14.5psi? or did you boost up already? If 14.5psi is the standard, its pretty high, isn't it?

PRODIGY 18-10-2008 05:49 PM
Hi Prodigy, did your WRX running the standard boost at 14.5psi? or did you boost up already? If 14.5psi is the standard, its pretty high, isn't it?
Mine was stock standard except the exhaust and CAI. 14.5 psi should be pretty much the norm for a standard MY98..

MY92 - MY96 WRX, Turbo: TD05, Boost: 11psi
(Please note that the WRX has been out in Japan since 1992, hence the MY92)

MY97 - MY98 WRX, Turbo: TDO4-13G, Boost: 13.5psi

MY99 - MY00 WRX, Turbo: TD04L, Boost: 14.5psi

V5STi, Turbo: VF28, Boost: 17.5psi (JDM), 16psi (Aus de-tune)
(Please note that the V5 STi was delivered with 17.5psi but too many people popped engines due to shit fuel so Subaru Aust de-tuned most models to 16psi)

MY01 - MY02 WRX, Turbo: TD04L-13G, Boost: 13.5psi

MY02 STi, Turbo: VF35, Boost: 16.4psi

MY03 - MY05 WRX, Turbo: TD04L, Boost: 13.5psi

MY03 - MY05 STi, Turbo: VF35, Boost: 16.4spi
(I'm assuming 03-05 STi specs are the same, someone please correct me if these figures aren't correct)

MY03 - MY06 Forester XT, Turbo: TD04L, Boost: 11.6psi

MY06 - MY07 WRX, Turbo: TD04L, Boost: 13.5psi

MY06 - MY07 STi, Turbo: VF43, Boost: 14.93psi

jEstEr? 19-10-2008 12:18 PM

hey thats a pretty cool list, where'd you get that from?

a tad innacurate as some 01/02 STIs got the VF30 too. But defintely worth a sticky

jEstEr? 19-10-2008 12:20 PM

moved to mechanical section and stuckied.

mr_psi 19-10-2008 12:25 PM

i had it in "My Documents" i dont know where i got it from. I know its not 100 percent accurate but gives you a good idea what to expect.

Hope it helps

romeo 19-10-2008 12:25 PM

11secWrx 03-02-2009 08:05 AM

WRXation 07-04-2009 05:53 PM

Turbotim????

Generally it helps if other people can read & understand what you post. A full stop or a comma would make it legible, it's not that hard.

A 2000 gc8 and a 98 gc8 are completely different animals. They run different turbos and the 2000 has a different engine / manifold design.

2000 runs 14.5 psi stock and a 98 13.5 psi stock.

1 bar is pretty normal.. its not 1990 where 8psi was the norm.. engine was built with turbocharger in mind

WRXation 14-09-2009 05:17 PM

I'm hoping he means 12psi like his post on the previous page.

Then that just means cheap china gauge is reading slightly under (as expected).

Although 2psi would explain how the evo dishes chop :D

HSMF 23-05-2010 08:21 AM

Which model of STI running VF34??? ANyone knows?

tuna 23-05-2010 08:39 AM

2002 type-ra (spec-c)

HSMF 23-05-2010 09:53 AM

How about the 05-06? I was told its also using VF34?

Luigi 23-05-2010 10:04 AM

MY03 - MY05 STi (PEANUT), Turbo: VF35, Boost: 16.4psi.

MY06 - MY07 STi (PIG NOSE), Turbo: VF43, Boost: 14.93psi.

You have been told incorrectly.

My bad gavin, I read it in dyslectic:o

HSMF 23-05-2010 11:23 AM

haha no offensive Paul, I was just wondering what year should the VF34 come off from, since I can't find it myself so ask around... but I know VF34 is the best in respond.. and hoping to get 300hp on wheel.

locote 20-09-2010 07:38 PM

Sorry to ask a silly question but what does a 97-98 spec boost to if the factory boost soleniod is deleted??

Rossco 21-09-2010 04:24 AM

7psi.

Marti 08-11-2010 09:50 AM

13-14 psi sounds about right, expecti it to creep up and drop back down when its cold out side

Stiguy 21-05-2011 10:38 AM

My old 98 used to run 14psi STD. But they used to have problems with boost control solenoid mounted on the rh guard. This resulted in a drop to 7psi. Can remove them and spray out with carby cleaner.
