Default Intercooler upgrade, worthwile ?

I am looking at ways to get some mild performace gains with little expense (Isn't everyone )

Is changing the standard wrx MY07 top mount intercooler to an STI one or even a Process West one going to give me any noticable power increase and would the car need to be tuned after fitting one? Car is otherwise essentially stock.

Also is the STI one a direct fit?

Cheers

To get any benefits you will need to tune.

A larger intercooler, will give cooler charge allowing a much harder tune to be stuck in.

STi > PW cooler too.

process west aint gonna be a little expense...or do u call $700 to $900 little?

If you want a cheap upgrade go the sti one or even some ebay ones are good.

keep the TMIC stock unless you upgrade the turbo
spend your cash on better bang for buck mods like exhaust
just changing the TMIC will see very little gain if any at all
if anything , just change to a silicon y pipe

i was thinking of upgrading my TMIC after i've finished my intake & exhaust
i know the PW TMIC is pretty expensive.... are there any other reasons why people shouldnt get one over a STI one?

There is no point going PW, STi cooler out performs them in every way.

There is no point going any aftermarket TMIC, new exhaust out performs them in every way

I am referring to GD STi intercoolers. GC8 are all same.

Fitment on a GD is piece of piss. Fitting to a GC8 is a bit harder.

Get the later model spec c tmic + water spray and you will never need a fmic.

PW never released any data showing their cooler can outperform the STi one (it is a worthy upgrade over the standard wrx cooler, but still can't beat the STi).
