Hey guys I getting a slight ticking sound from the turbo well sounds like its coming from that part of the engine, and a bit of smoke seems to be when it gets a bit hot not sure if its just steam coming off or something any suggestions has just happened little bit of a worry haha.

Any help would be great, and if makes any difference I have a V6 STI.

take the inlet hose off and gently see if there is any free play on the compressor wheel shaft

if not

check the manufacturer...if it was produced in the middle east and has 'Alah Akhbar' written on it...you're farked mate! It's a sucide turbo ticking over before the explosion
