200,000kms service - Do you recon its worth it??

Hi guys and gals.

Well my 99 gc8 has over 190,000kms on it now and coming up for its 200k major service.
Im running a VF34, 20PSI, Link, CAI, 3" exhaust at the moment. it had the stock turbo running 16PSI untill 180,000kms.

Should i bother giving it a 200,000kms service(timing belt, water pump, seals etc), or should i just so a minor service (oil and oil filter) and drive it till it dies?
Then maybe use the $1000 i saved on the major service to put towards a secondhand 207?

Is the engine likely to make it to 250,000kms or 300,000kms?
What would you say the average kms is for a 2L wrx engine?

Steve.

Mine's done 374,000. Original motor :D I've done every service PROPERLY as specified, including a major at 200k

But if you're planning on doing a 207 build anyway, then yeah, i'd just go an oil and filter change and some upper engine cleaner.

All depends when you had planned to go the 207 route.

my mate had this theory with his forester, from memory it lasted till 280,000 till the timing belt snapped, (it was changed in the 100,000 k service) he planned on building a motor for it when it did this anyway same as you do

I'll do your little service if you go ahead and just do the little service. But its up to you some people, would rebuild there engine at 200,000km and some people just do the major service and let it die on it's on free will.

U rather do your timing belt and oil if anything, i guess the other fluids could wait a lil bit.....

I would do the major service. Timing belt goes may as well say goodbye to your heads. Driven nicely there is no reason an EJ20 wont go till 300k and beyond.

Mine's proof of that!

Hmm, alot of interesting points of view.

I might hold off the 200k service till something major breaks. and do a complete engine overhaul/engine swap when it does (or swap to a 207 :) )

If i did my 207 swap now, i wouldnt be able to sell my working 205 with 190,000kms on it anyway. so i may as well run it till it dies...

If im going to swap out my engine for a 207, and possibly swap to a 6 speed box and associated diff gear, is it worth doing it to a WRX? or should i just sell it and buy a STI?
