Calling all '01 sti guru's!

Hey guys.

Just wanted to know, who out there has an '01 sti?

I have just recently had my mechanic drop an '01 sti motor into my gf's gc8. All it has at the moment is a jap cat back exhaust, everything else is stock.

Her car used to run the autronic sm2, but, because the '01 sti motor has avcs and the sm2 doesn't have the function to control it like the sm4/M800 etc, the ecu had to removed, and alot of other wires had to be ripped out and basically, everything from the '01 sti (wiring wise, ecu etc) was slapped into the gc.

For some reason, the vf30 seems very laggy, as in, full boost at 3800/3900rpm

Is this normal for the vf30?

I had it serviced, and the fuel consumption is awesome! It gets 650-670km w/full tank, taking into consideration, the tank has a major fuel leak somewhere underneth so could probably do 700km

Do you think, maybe the ecu has some what been tuned for fuel economy and not power, thus, turning it into a lag monster?

How much boost can we chuck at it? (what are you's running?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Mat

Checked the compression? It could be a low compression motor.

The japs got an 01 sti.

The MY01 STi did not come to Aust...the MY02, however, did...but the first MY02 STi's were actually delivered in December 2001 (mine, I think was the first).
Yes the VF30 is a bit laggy in factory tune, but this can be improved with an aftermarket ECU or an ECUTek (as mine had). With a proper retune you can easily run 19psi without any problem as these are a pretty strong engine.
You will find that by just fitting a 3"TBE it will improve performance a fair bit and reduce lag slightly.

VF30 are laggy, those numbers are not unusual in the slightest.

MY01 and some JDM MY02 STI received the VF30, the latter MY02, and AUDM received a VF35 for this reason.

Find yourself a VF35 and reap the benifits.
