gc8 radiator

Hey all, thought i'd ask a quick question... Have many people had trouble with there 99 gc8 cracking a plastic tank on the radiator.. have been losing coolant and have found what I think is a crack at the top of radiator, on the plastic tank.. took it for a lap with boost and pretty sure thats the prob as its sprayed coolant.. does anyone make ali rad to directly replace this unit.. any other idea's appreciated..

Common problem to get a pin sized hole in GC8 radiators. Seen some alloy ones on ebay but I got a replacement from JWS.

Look on Ebay mate....... I have a china Spec (Monsta brand) in my Sti.

It's not a bad rad but the welding is shity..... The fitting for the bleed line back to the header tank fractured (may have been self inflicted) and it was a simple job to tap in a 1/4 inch bsp fitting to permanently fix it.

Performance wise the core is twice as thick as the stock 1 inch core. Temp never creeps up even with sustained runs on boost (hills etc).

It added around 2 litres more to the total cooling system capacity and that's a good thing imho.

Same as mine:

Buy it now $235

I had the whole top hose area snap off of mine (doesn't help driving through sand dunes) cost me a head gasket ++++ then the next one cracked so I swapped it for a brass/copper radiator.

I have an ebay spec aluminium rad in my car. Been in there since Jan/Feb last year and no probs yet. Heaps cheaper than a new OEM and looks to be a better option.

yeah, think I will go with a ali rad, its only a pinhole so will patch it till I can get my hands on one... thanks for the input..

By the way Taktics, your pm box is full...

went to beep some idiot taxi driver today and horn isn't working now... let my mrs drive it for two months and it turns into a shitbox, lmao..

I bought a brand new plastic tank radiator from carsRus I paid $250 but have gone up to $274 on trading post 4 core opposed to three like OEM been running it for a year now and had no probs. Plus very helpful guys to deal with.

BTW there is no way of patching a plastic tank they expand and shrink with heat changes and a pin hole usually becomes a lot bigger very fast
