Boost Levels

Hi guys,

Im hoping to install an electronic boost control on the weekend and Im wondering what is the upper limits in terms of boost levels the standard ecu can handle without causing misfiring / tuning issues or complications.

Cheers

3 bar will start to show signs of the engine's weakspots.

Can the ECU handle 3 bar nearly 45 pounds?

haha kato LOL! :p

Think your engine might have more trouble with 3 bar than your ecu

Haha .. im certain of it!

oh well guess i will find out im tipping i bar should be fine.

Going the speed detection method rather than the multiple repetition there are you Kato!!!

Upping the boost without tuning for it is a recipe for a story titled "Things that don't end well". Might last a few years might last a few weeks might last a few minutes.

Do it properly. Do it once.

1 Bar should be fairly safe. They all run somewhere around there give or take a couple of PSI. Just don't do the I'll run 1 bar but just gonna show the mate how much better it goes with 1.5 for just one run.

Keep in mind when I sold my MY98 to City Subaru the first thing they asked me was has it been fitted with a boost controller. Would not take the car if it had. May hurt the resale or option of a trade in if you are concerned about that in future.

You have an MY01 WRX, go to a workshop and get a re-tune of the stock ECU (RT / MMS for ECUTek, ASG for Verso)

For instance, a Verso retune for $990 will give you more boost with a correct tune so you will not blow your engine to kingdom cum. (Blow, cum, lols)

Upping boost alone is BAD, do it right and reap the rewards.

Roguerover 15-05-2009 11:55 AM

Yes i do have the MY01 medel, are you saying they run 1 bar as standard or they should be ok to increase to 1 bar.

Obviously i dont want to damage the engine but i know i can increase the boost to a point that the stock ECU will handle.

Kato - Your right the best thing to do is to get a proper tune and remapping of the ECU. this will be the very next step. No point on remapping the ecu when their is no boost control.
