Smoke from engine bay

Hey everyone
i just rocked up home before and saw a little bit of smoke coming out of my bonnet scoop. i opened my bonnet and it smelt like burning plastic, had a bit of a smell around and it was strongest near the turbo :S any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Check your coolant level. Could be a split hose going to the turbo.

could be youre rocker cover seal leaking wipe youre finger under the rocker on turbo side. see if you pick up fresh oil.

Check if any oil is leaking from the drivers side cam cover gasket and bolt seals.

A split CV boot will throw grease on the underside of your exhaust it will smoke a fair bit

Quick!! Put the smoke back in before it's too late!!!!

As above, check for obvious and non-obvious signs of fluids/grease being dipersed throughout the engine bay. Start with the hottest parts being the exhaust/turbo etc and then work your way from there. Finding where it is sprayed to look for where it came from. Pretty simple really and will give you a better appreciation of what goes on under the hood.

Tip for the day: Have several rags handy as you wouldn't want to burn yourself nor get your hands covered in shit when you do find it.

had a very similar incident yesterday.... saw a bit of smoke at the lights and even more when i arrived at my mates house popped the bonnet an it was on fire from behind the plastic pulley cover, from what i can see it blew out the dipstick... thank god i got a fire putter outer :) so im thinkin its best to check everything...

check your turbo lines, had a similar issue where the turbo lines would heat up and expand causing a slight split which would leak oil onto the turbo/exhaust and cause the smoke to come out of the bonnet/scoop
