Just wanted to know how much a set of whitleine sways (22m), new brake pads + install would set me back.

To my knowledge its around 1-2k.

Need your opinion on a good street pad as my fronts need replacing soon (or if I should just stick with the oem replacements as I dont do any track stuff yet).

Cheapest for swaybars ive found is online performance (ebay)
I got my 22mm rear for $199
if you get a 22mm front then go a 24mm rear
As far as cost of install - fit them yourself - its very easy

Thanks for the info. Do just need the jack from the boot and a spanner to install the sways? I a complete noob when it comes to spanners...unless we're talking meccano...oh wait im pretty crap at that too

Hell no!

You will need a trolley jack and a couple of axle stands to support the car as well as some chocks to go in front of the wheels still on the ground.

Never ever get under a car only supported by a jack (especially the emergency use jack in the boot!), bricks, wooden blocks etc etc.

You can go to Repco, Supercheap, Malz etc and pick up jack, stands etc for not very much money.

The sway bar replacement is easy. You will just need a spanner set and all your doing is just replacing what is there...old one off, new one in.

The labour saving will more than pay for any tools you buy.

hey mate, i installed my sways myself, pretty easy!!
just jack up the car, put it on stands, then get underneath with a couple of socket wrenches....for the front you need to undo:
diff protection plate
swaybar mounts (where the bar is secured to chassis)
swaybar from end links

then putting the new one on is same process as taking old one off! just use a bit of grease in the contact areas, makes it easier.

edit: i could bring round some car stands for ya, but i think it'd be better for ya in the long run to invest in some yourself - as once the mod bug bites and you see how its better to do it yourself, you're laughing!

Hey dude...

By the sounds of it, get a mate or someone mechanically minded to do it for you. (But watch, ask questions and learn of course).

The things you suggested, are all easy D.I.Y, however - I would get someone to show you first time round. Especially when it comes to brakes... lol.

That said, the longest part of doing brakes, is the bleeding. The actual swapping of lines, rotors, calipers, is all quick and quite painless. And swaybars is a case of 'out with the old, in with the new'.

Its all fun stuff. Brand wise, (Dont let price be the deciding factor - and im not going to start a X brand vs Y brand argument here), but things from Japan are very good. Many things from Aus are also very good. If she is just a general streeter, whiteline is a good start, however, there are more expensive options. It just depends on where you want to go.

Swaybars should be fitted with a normal load on the wheels
so it is best to do it up on ramps or a hoist or over a pit etc
but you can remove the old ones fit up the new ones loosely then drop it on the ground to tighten everything up,
if your car is too low, lower it down with some blocks under the wheels so you can crawl underneath, driveing over a gutter also works

Thanks very much for your help guys. My Dad will be able to help me fit up the sways no problems, once I buy them. I will invest in some more stands, I have 2 right now out the back in the shed, would you guys say 4 stands is about right or can you manage with 2?
