Default Mod's n Warranty

Hey fellas,

I'm looking at a new exhaust and tune as a first mod, but don't want to void the remaining warranty with Subaru wherever I can.

After reading various threads, I think my warranty will still hold as long as nothing mechanical is replaced; or mods impose too heavily on the mech enough to cause enough damage to void me my warranty.

I've got 2yrs left existing frm previous owners 5yr Warr from new car purchase.
I'll have to call Suby Monday to check further.

Apart from that; I'm looking at a suitably resonated 3", that operates below 98-102db at high rpm. I read there's a a compromise on exhaust choice between performance gains to excessive noise levels. Is this true; or only by a small factor?

Possibly Verso to tune; or someone else SOR, or avail weekends?

Lastly, purchase outright; or package/tune deal from a shop?

EDIT: I forgot to mention it's a MY06 WRX Wagon.

Feedback appreciated; Cheers!

Well here is what you don't wnat to hear...

Exhaust wise anything forward of the catylitic converter will void your warranty, therefore a TBE will void your warranty. Cat back systems offer minor performance gains.

Tune wise, VERSO is best bang for your buck.

You will find that workshops will offer you a better price on work done to the car if it is all done at once.

The other advice you will hear is if you are worried about warranty forget about modding mechanically, unless you have the time and money to keep swapping to stock parts if anything goes wrong with your car and needs to be sent back to the dealer.

$990 for a VERSO tune from Sean and Nik at ASG (All Star Garage)

The 2.5L crave the VERSO this is only a reflash and not a swap of ECU.

I had mine 6 months and then installed a 3" TBE and VERSO

Trust the Boxer and no need for warranty.

I guess it all depends on what actually happens to you car, that is needed to be taken in for warranty work.. If aftermarket parts are found that could relate to the fault, then you may have to answer a few questions...

Judge, I would bite the bullet now and do the intake, exhaust and a reflash tune. You will get far more enjoyment out of your ride. TMIC waterspray also.

Possibly a Turbo and Upgraded intercooler as well if you can afford it.
If you get a tune from a good tuner such as Sean at ASG, chances are very slim that you will have any engine problems anyway.

If a piston lets go, or a big end bearing you will then be on your own with no warranty.

Subi's are pretty reliable these days, regular servicing with good oil and sensible tuning is the key.

Not exactly true. There are numerous examples of cars with TBE's which have had warranty claims honoured. The main thing is to be HONEST with Subaru about any changes to the car when making warranty claims.

Thanks for the feedback fellas,

For the moment I think I'll look at a new exhaust kit; TurboXS CB Oval Single Tip perhaps ? plus possibly =length headers and a VERSO tune.

When some additional funds are avail. I'll look at a new Turbo, IC, intake;retune, handling, brakes

Any specials around town at the moment on Exhausts ?

Do ASG do just the tuning; or install also ?

I may give the guys at ASG a call to have a chat, and head up there one afternoon or this weekend.

Yep, couldn't have said it better.

Wish I knew about verso tuning, its a little cheaper than ECUtek for sure.
