Default Fuel pump voltage Q

Hi all,

I’m looking at swapping my Bosch 044 for a Walbro GSS342.

The Bosch 044 is supported by an external relay which provides a constant 12V, as opposed to the stock fuel pump controller which modulates voltage.

My question is, once I drop the Walbro GSS342 in, does anyone know if the constant 12V will harm the pump?

If so, I suppose I’ll have to de-wire the external relay, but I’d like to get away with it if I can.

Cheers!

Walbro (actually all) pumps are rated for 12-18 volts constantly...... It's just that some manufacturers back the current off to keep the pump hushed at idle.

Alternator voltage is 14-14.5 volts anyway.

GC's run a constant 12v nominal to their pumps, plenty running around on Walbro's.

Why are you going back to a Walbro?....They aren't much quieter...

You can insulate the 044 with rubber to quieten it down if the noise is too much (I can't hear mine inside the car.

I've done that and its just farkin loud. I had a Bosch 910 that was loud and a Bosch 984 that was really quiet. Some are, some aren't.

I've had a Walbro previously and it was silent (in comparison to the Bosch pumps anyway!).

As above, they reduce the voltage to quiten the pump at idle/low revs.

try insulating the vibrations better on the bosch.

maybe mount the pump to a square piece of aluminium, and then use thick double sided tape to attach the aluminium to the body of the car. could be a tempoary solution to try?
