Woops

Just went to fill up, i was in a world of my own at the petrol station. So i filled 20L of Uleaded petrol before realizing what i have done. Is this going to do damage to my engine/turbo etc?

Rexy03 08-09-2009 06:17 PM

No, you probably wont even notice the difference

Doyle 08-09-2009 06:19 PM

I guess you could just fill it as much as possible with 98 and take it easy till you fill up again (with 98 :-p)

smerm07 08-09-2009 06:20 PM

its nearly stalling on idle and seems pretty sluggish now. i can live with that as long as it no damage is done. ill just drive like a granny till its all used up.

Köura 08-09-2009 06:21 PM

Not really. If it was diesel or carlton draught, then yes.

JDM_STYLE 08-09-2009 06:23 PM

Mabye pop in some Wynns Octane booster if you can be assed or
do what the locals did to 4 cars in my complex last night and suck
that stuff out with a hose, dirty cnuts!

haha, well if anyone wants 20l of free unleaded they are more than welcome to come around and grab it.

Elrico 08-09-2009 06:27 PM

Octane booster is bad for the spark plugs! Id syphon it and just throw in 98. Would a fuel filter change afterwards be too anal?

im hoping yes lol

NVRENUF 08-09-2009 06:29 PM

id just either use it up or fill up completely with 98 and it will all mix and use it up.

mr_psi 08-09-2009 06:33 PM

just top up with 98.

smerm07 08-09-2009 06:34 PM
just top up with 98.
rather than use it up first? would it really matter.

mr_psi 08-09-2009 06:38 PM

well if you say it is running sluggish and rough idle then i would be topping it up with u98.

it will then run alot better and the 20ltrs of u91 will go un-noticed in the 40ltrs of u98.

if your car is tuned to 98 then you want your car to be running that level of octance anymore or less is going to cause issues.

lol @ the tags. if only i had enough

yeah i might just do that tomorrow morning. fill the rest up with 98 and then see how that goes.

all in all no damage should be done?

daveygravey 08-09-2009 06:40 PM

daveygravey 08-09-2009 06:41 PM

SweLLy 08-09-2009 06:45 PM

go top up with 98 it will mix in fine, wouldnt bother to much about the fuel filter unless your going to do a full service

Elrico 08-09-2009 06:52 PM

I just had a thought, leave it in Maddington with the tank open for a few hours. Bound to be gone within that time frame.

plus why fill up the car with only 20ltrs :P if you used 98, im sure you wouldnt get much at all

DS06WA 09-09-2009 12:29 PM

ive done that once too.
didnt do any damage, just took it easy
ran like arse though :P

Jezza 09-09-2009 01:16 PM

subaru fuel tanks cannot be syphoned, there is a one-way valve leading to the fuel tank.

dont quote me on this though, i may be wrong!

just drive off-boost etc, you shouldnt damage anything. start thrashing again after 1-2 fill ups :D

smerm07 09-09-2009 02:34 PM

ok, so i filled her all the way up with 98. drove about 60km today. seems allright, better than it was when just on unleaded. Now on gear change it makes a "squirt" noise compared to the small "flutter" it was doing before filling up the unleaded. Im driving off boost (not going over 0 on the guage). Any ideas?

NVRENUF 09-09-2009 02:38 PM

I think ya stressing for nothing to be honest. just use up the fuel and refill you will be sweet. I wouldnt worry hey. you have 98 mixed in there now.

smerm07 09-09-2009 02:41 PM
I think ya stressing for nothing to be honest. just use up the fuel and refill you will be sweet. I wouldnt worry hey. you have 98 mixed in there now.
yeah im trying not to worry. just the sound is different to what it was before on gear change.

NVRENUF 09-09-2009 02:43 PM

yeah. so how much fuel you got left to do.

smerm07 09-09-2009 02:47 PM
yeah. so how much fuel you got left to do.
as in to use up? well needle is still showing full after 70km. i worked out the mix in my tank at the moment.

~1/4 tank old 98 (what was in the tank when i filled up)
20L ULP
~23L new 98

teejay 09-09-2009 04:46 PM

Turn boost up as high as it will go - will use your unleaded up alot quicker*

*dont do this.

smerm07 09-09-2009 04:48 PM

:p haha

Im fairly sure that if he filled up with 20l of 91, 95 or 98, he'd still get 20 litres.
