unknown noise
Hi guys.
So driving home today.. especially when in fifth, but later in most gears. Car makes a sort of rubbery, screeching sound, especially when moving. Idle not a problem, revving no noise.. but if I put it in reverse it will make a eeeek eeek noise.. eeek quite then eek. Mechanic had a look at couldnt figure it out. U cant really hear it at all when the bonnet is open, but only when it moves.. if I accelerate, it stops, it is more when I am sitting at the same speed, or accelerating slowly that it happens. any ideas?. clutch has been done and engine taken out and put back in. could it be something like a seal or engine mount is perhaps not tight enough? I can't think of what else it could be. |
Thrust bearing? Wait, that's more obvious on idle. It's not the brake pads is it? When they wear down some pads have a metal tab or something similar to warn you they're getting low. Seems small, but hey, never know. :P

OK rac dude just came out. Lucky for me he had lots of experience with our type of car.
He found the problem in like 20 seconds. It is a noisy engine mount. Physically put some pressure on the engine, moved it left to right and that noise was re-enacted. So having it AGAIN taken back to have the mounting tightened, or whatever they do :). |
Who's been doing the 'work'?
