xr6turbo at standard level
Default my03 sti

guys im a newbie to the wrx scene. just bought a black my03 sti to use as a track car as my xr6 just is a heavy smoke machine and a bit of a handful being rwd. good fun tho

i want more power but wanna use the factory turbo and intercooler for the moment.

mods which will happen in the next two weeks are 3inch turbo back exhaust and process west cai. 300awhp is what id be happy with. is this possible using stock turbo and intercooler? ive been trying to find a "path to power" or "power plan" thread before i posted but i couldnt find anything.

got 3 questions!!

how much power would i get from

PW CAI
sti tmic
3inch TBE
decapped sti injectors
walbro 255 pump
and a verso tune

also is it worth buying a PW splitter or is the sti one good enough??

and if i change to a PW front mount would making 300awhp be a lot easier?

cheers fellas

I reckon you'd need a bigger turbz to make 300. You could probably crack it with a very aggressive tune though at the cost of engine longevity. Search the forums, lots of threads about this. With your listed mods id say 260-280hp from the EJ207 2.0L @ 20psi with Verso.

Front mount will help with power with a little sacrifice of throttle response/turbo lag. Nice work on your purchase.

With those mods, you should see about 280-285hp atw, maybe a little more.
My STi motor made 295hp with the same mods as you but with a slightly bigger turbo than a VF35 (TD05-16G) @ 1.5 bar.

STi splitter will be better suited for the STi cooler than the PW splitter.
PW splitter is made specifically for the PW TMIC. No need to change your STi splitter.

With your mods, a PW FMIC or any FMIC will not have much effect on how much power you make as the STi TMIC will still be running efficiently. A FMIC will allow you to run more boost more safely, but i dont think it will get you to your 300hp at this stage.

thanks boys.

im makin notes in my head

i think ill just do the tune and intake and exhuast fuel pump and decap and get used to the power. then upgrade to FMIC and bigger turbo at a later date.

how strong are these engines? i know theyre forged and stuff which is a great platform. would i be able to push 370whp safely?

The Ej207 is a Semi closed deck with forged pistons and thats all i really know, but they seem to handle over 20psi as a daily... so they are quite strong.

Cant answer your 370hp question though.

PS: There have been brand new Sti's blow motors early in life though on this forum so thats something aswell

ordered my parts today, will install exhaust, pump and intake then book it in for a tune at asg. getting decapped inj. at the same time.

got a question before i book the tune tho

is it worth putting perrin headers on with the factory turbo? what gains would i see?

im pretty sure theyre most beneficial for bigger turbos, but itd be good to see what i can pump out of the factory set up. i plan on getting everything ready for a bigger turbo once i get bored of the factory one. probably mid next year

I'd say do the intake (including silicone inlet to turbo), exhaust, waterspray and tune. The headers will give a little more gain but not massive. If you find down the line you're eager for more grunt, then the next step would be a bigger huffer and then do the manifold swap. There's a fair amount of labour involved so this could be part of a stage of upgrades as you see fit.

When you say track hack are you purely looking at circuit or doing a bit of everything motorsport wise? If so, sticking with a top mount and going for midrange punch would be the most viable option.

mainly circuit work, not fussed about the drags, but id like to run a high 12. the xr6 was set up for the drags but i got bored after going down 3 times. thats why i bought the sti pretty much. the xr got another muffler put in it last week and im gonna get the tune touched up to run on 95ULP to make it more of a suitable daily.

Definitely gonna keep the sti tmic, I hate laggy track cars EWW. I'm falling in love with subarus.. it just feels so right! hahah

After browsing around i definitely want cams and rotational idle, purely for wank factor of course. so hopefully by the end of the year itll have these mods

3inch TBE
silicone intake pipe
PW CAI
walbro 255 pump
decap injectors
perrin headers
272 cams
and a different ecu for rotational idle (autronics ecu?????)

whats one of those ecus installed with a tune gonna cost me?

if i could push 295-300 id be happy. then save up for new turbo next year.

any help would be great once again

cheers boys

i know a bigger huffer would be money better spent but i just want that lumpy idle now:P:P
