unichip vs complete aftermarket ECU

yo.

how does a unichip compare to an aftermarket ECU (generalising on the aftermarket ECU). both are programmable, both allow the tuner to alter fuel maps and loads of parameters, and the unichip seems to allow the car to retain its drivability since it only sits on top of the factory computer

is a unichip the better solution over a full aftermarket ECU for the general WRX owner with mild mods in mind (fmic, more boost, etc)??

matto.

since posting this, i have read about Ecutek's which are factory stock ECU's reprogrammed. this seems like a better option over the unichip and aftermarket ECU.

you can sell the unichip once you're done with it, which is a nice advantage

In that case keep reading - a reflash or piggyback ecu does not compare in any way/shape form to a full ecu.

Its a cheaper option that will normally 'adequately' do the job.

You DO get what you pay for, the only limit to what will 'do' the job is $$$.

the ecu is only as good as the tuner - regardless of the brand.

as you can with any ecu...but you cant 'sell' your reflashed ecu...so to speak.

unichip is not a bad mod, but as Bluey said, its as good as what the tuner can do with it

Its probably not a bad value for mild mods,i wouldn't say a FMIC as a mild mod. I dont think you'll be using your stock TD04 with the FMIC.
