4.44 Gearbox on a 01 Bug Eye

Hey guys.

I have a MY01 Bug Eye and the syncrons in my 4th is pretty worn and 3rd is starting to go as well so I originally thought of changing to some new tougher gear sets. But a few people suggested that I would be better off spending the same amount of money on a good second hand box. I don't want to go for a 6 speed conversion since I can't afford it. So after reading some threads, a 4.44 box seem pretty good.

I have read that a MY02 comes with a 4.44 box, so I would like to ask if my MY01 can use it as well? Also when i did my service last time at RMS they told me that my diff is showing signs of age as well since its making so noise but not metal bits when it is drained while changing the fluid so nothing should be broken in there yet.

If it is possible to use a 4.44, about how much would it cost and if I get it from JWS or somewhere similar will I get a diff with it or is it a seperate piece that I will have to buy?

Cheers guys~

You will need a matching 4.44 Diff. Usually purchased separately

$2K for 4.44 5 speed gearbox and matching diff is about the going rate.

Before you go forking out $2.5K for a 4.44 conversion, have you looked at changing your gear box oil?

+1 on this. I had my 100k service done and gear box oil changed. Noticed a bit of a crunch every now and then between 3rd and 4th. Put in some redline lightweight shockproof which fixed it up.

Much cheaper than a new gearbox/diff ...

My two cents.
