Default Power window motor?

Hey guys,

When it rains it pours it seems ... 2000 GD bug eye.

Driver's side window is no longer going down ...

All other windows are working, the driver's side has been a bit dodgy lately, in that it seemed to struggle somewhat to get the window down. I thought it could just be the heat and the seals swelling causing more friction on the glass for first open ...

This morning when trying to get it down, it went about 4 mm then stopped. Isn't going up or down ... Tried flicking the switch a few times rapidly as I'd heard the contacts can get a bit gunky, however no response ...

I'm convinced that power is still getting to it, as when I open/close one of the other windows, and flick the switch on the driver's side it slows the opening/closing of the other (hence power being drained). I can also hear the switch switching (clicking), but no response.

I'm therefore assuming the motor is at fault, and seeing I'm going out to JWS this afternoon, may as well pick one up while I'm there ...

Guys, what is the most common part to fail in the power window mechanisms?

I have yet to take the trim off, which will no doubt uncover the issue, but just thought I'd ask first as time isn't something I have much of at the moment ...

Cheers.

the same thing happened in the RS just last week man, took out the switch and cleaned it for starters, but still nothin, checked for voltage at the motor with switch depressed, and still had 12 volts, so it was the motor at fault. tried to get the motor out separately from the scissor assembly, but just couldnt do it, also the RS having frameless windows doesnt help as i couldnt tape them to the frame tp prevent the window falling when i loosened everything up.

in the end, i pissed it off to RMS, and they sourced a complete motor/reg/scissor assembly for me and installed it. no probs now. was about $150 for the parts i think. also, apparently power window motors can be DIY reconditioned, theres a thread around somewhere.

Ahhh, that's pretty cheap for the window reg! Called up a couple of dealers, not mentioning names, and was quoted $700 for the reg (without fitting)!

I'll have a look for that thread! Cheers mate!

Yeah that $700 was new from subaru parts, I ended up getting a reg from JWS as I was out there yesterday arvo. Reasonable price, will have a go at it on the weekend.

Thanks for that link, I'll check it out.

Well, interesting issue ...

The bolts holding the regulator to the panel were loose ... Which then seemed to push the reg out of the guide rail, which then pushed on the motor, and unplugged it!

Un-did the bolts, put the window back in the rail, lubed it up, re-bolted the reg (tight this time!), plugged in the motor and it was all good!

Dunno how it got so loose, haven't been doing any jumps or anything ... Not like Ken Block ... :P

Happy it's all working now, and noticed something strange, the switch for the power windows is a nissan part, do subaru and nissan collaborate/share their switches?

Alot of manufacturers share parts like that.
Majority of switches in a subie are nissan, alot of alternators and starter motors are made by mitsubishi etc etc
