WRX gearbox

Hey Guys,

Kind of newish and wanted an opinion as i have never had a WRX before.

Recently i was driving along in 5th at 80km/ph on cruise control and my gearbox started making a huge crunch sound on it as if i had missed gears and tried to accelerate.

I pulled over because there was a scrapping sound when i was driving and was unsure what it was. Once i had pulled over i checked down below and there was nothing dragging across the ground.

I then got in the car and tried to drive off, i got it into first successfully without problems, when i put it into second there was a little crunch, when i put it into 3rd it was as if it was in neutral - when i put my foot down it just revved out. When i put it into 4th there was a massive crunch and then putting it into 5th was fine. While i was driving there was still the huge scrapping across the ground sound on it.

I have a couple of questions -

1. Have i blown the gearbox or is it just loose pins or has the 3rd diff blown?
2. If it is the gearbox that has blown, can you recommend some places to get a new gearbox?

1. YES. Probably stripped 3rd gear

2. I recommend calling Doug at S-Technic. 9493 5559. He can repair your current box, but its probably cheaper and quicker to get a good condition second hand gearbox. Doug can supply and fit a gearbox for you for a good price.

Buy seagull's 5sp 4.444 box/diff combo Dan :) you won't regret it!

Seagull's box will be a downgrade if the car is a MY01.
V3/4 are the older type 4 bolt case.
V3/4 diff will need a shaft change to work as well.
I can supply the correct 4.44 gearbox and matching diff with the following benefits.

1/ A reputable workshop to fit it if required.
2/ A tax invioce.
3/ A guarantee.
4/ Same price.

Cheers, Doug. 9493 5559.
