there's a circlip holding it down

if you can get a set of long nose pliers or even a pick to "unlatch" it
and pull the shifter, some takes a bit of effort, others, a gentle tug will get it out

its under the car in that model, just smash it forward into 3rd gear and it'll pop out

You will need a hard rubber hammer, all it takes is one good solid whack on the top of the shifter whilst holding it in the socket.

I have done two of these on the GC8's, piece of cake!!

if you're a real man, put the gear knob back on and smash it with your hand and it will go in. if not, smash the top of the thread with something soft (so you don't fuck the thread, and don't smash your leather gearknob with a hammer it will fuck it) or find a nut that winds on smash that

if you dont have a rubber hammer, you can just put the gearknob back and push it firmly and it should pop back in, mine did

There is a guide in the DIY section of the rexnet forums, that's where I got the info to do mine. There is no circlip on the GC's you just gotta give it a good lever and yank out.
