Anyone using redline heavy duty shock proof

Hi Gents,

Is anyone using Redline Heavy Duty Shock Proof (the red one- not the normal Smurf snot) in thier rear diff?

Specifically in a slightly noisy R160.

Did it help to reduce the noise at all?

try using Castrol SAF-XA, i use it in all my diffs now.

I've used it extensively in my diff, its always been good to me.

Rossco I even have an unopened quart bottle of this at home if you would like to purchase.. I'll just have to find it!

so stace, if i change out my redline 75w90NS i have in my plated R160 STI 2-way for this castrol stuff will it still lock up alright but quieten down the clunking in carparks?

doesnt make them silent, but between normal mineral oil and this stuff, its day and night.

in the holinger dog box, it makes the gearbox quiet enough that from the outside you would barely hear the straight cuts.

I'm using Redline Heavy weight shock proof in my rear R180 STI Plate LSD diff. Besides a tiny bit of back lash noise on gear changes, the Plate LSD itself is silent.

I also used the same oil when I used to have a R160 STI Plate Diff. Also ran silent

The redline is 75w250 with the viscosity of a 75w90.

I'm hoping the high calcium content of the redline will supress a bit of noise (it's a bit like quiet straight-cuts lol!).

Thanks for you input gents.

Doug! How does this happen??

There was no other metal bits inside the rear diff housing (bar the usual metal dust on the magnet)....Oil was clean & only 20,000 old (penrite Sin Gear 80w140)
