Also have to be careful using circuit spec brake pads on the street.
A lot need a heaps of heat to work (hence the proper use of a warmup lap).
On the street you would have nothing because they would be cold all the time.
Just need to make sure whatever caliper you get has a large range of pad compounds available. Street would require different pad to hillclimbs and both would be different to circuit work.

The power of the caliper is directly related to the combined area of the pistons. A 4 pot with 50mm pistons has ~7850 mm2 of piston area. A 8 pot with 30mm pistons has 5655 mm2 of pistons. The advantage of the 8 pot is that the force is more evenly distributed over a (usually) larger pad. Once you get into big rotor diameters the pads become banana shaped and the 6-8 piston layout suits better. The caliper is only one part of the equasion. Rotor diameter, friction material, pad size, tyre diameter all play a major part in the power of the brake. Road calipers are usually compromised in performace and weight to ensure a long, maintenance free, quiet service life. Race calipers disregard all those things in pursuit of weight saving and stiffness. Things like external fluid crossovers and quick release pads are not ideal on road going cars.

^^^^

Great lots of info to chew on..

So a circuit caliper would not really be suited but a rally WRC caliper for example would be perfectly suited as they dont have a warm up lap..

That would have more to do with the pad compound not the caliper

Correct. I was just talking pad compounds to add to the picture.
Most good commonly used performance calipers will have a huge range of pad compounds, but it's still worth doing the checking.
Also matching master cylinder with caliper option is also worth checking.
Also bear in mind you need to keep them cool. Don't know enough about imprezas to know if thisnis an issue.
At the end of the day you will gain more from getting seat time at the track. As long as brakes are safe.

keep in mind that most competition calipers do NOT have dust/dirt seals and need to be overhauled/serviced frequently to avoid major problems.

this fact on it's own, would suggest that they are not suitable for your application.

I think a caliper like the spec c ra-R has (or similar) would be better suited to your application Tino.

Get STI Brembos.

The major factor I find in braking is the contact patch & how much grip you have. You could have the best brakes in the world (like prodrive alcons for example) and using nangkangs they are useless. Get some rcomps on and all of a sudden you stop in half the distance. Are you hitting ABS?

I think Rcomps on the track and you will change your mind over wether you need 4 plated diffs and 7 pot brakes

Also, you can have massive brakes, but if you haven't got the goontahs to use them, they're pointless.

Just wait for these R comps T, then go on the track and see how
they differ from your slippery RS2's before you look at bigger brakes.
