Is it hard to do the 50k service?
Hi,
I just bought an 06 WRX  to replace my hail damaged slow Liberty. Anyway the 50k major service has been stamped by a Perth Subaru dealership but they haven't actually done it and want me to pay them to do it even though its stamped :tard::tard:. But thats a whole different story. Since its stamped and thats the main thing that would normally put me off doing it myself Im thinking about having a crack at it. I know the basics but could a novice change the diff / gear oil or is it a tricky job. Thanks |
50k service on an 06 is brake fluid, coolant, engine oil, diff oil, g/box oil
the gearbox uses a bolt with a T70 head on it, which you would need to use rear diff can just use a half inch ratchet/breaker bar pretty straight forward, drop it out the plug, fill back up |
Thanks, Im downloading the service manual now. If it looks too hard anyone know roughly what it would cost to do this service somewhere respectable but not Subaru. Melville Subaru (not the guilty party) want $790.

City Subaru - $650
just realised you said not subaru, but anyway |
could give cypher industries a call, there SOR (oconnor)

do it yourself, helps you learn a bit more about the car and helps you learn about subaru in general :)
if you do it yourself just remember to include the receipts in your owners manual to prove youve done the service ! good luck! |

But yeah it would be good to learn and I can choose all my own fluids. Does the 50k include spark plugs? On another subject is the 06 WRX called an GC8? |
Speak to Luke at city's, he's always helpful
06 wrx is a GD, GC8 is my00 and before |
If you are a little mechanical minded give it a go,
once you have done it once you will realise how easy it is get a t70 torx driver bit off eBay for the gearbox drain plug the spark plugs should be good for 80-100k |
Call STechnic.
