GC8 Timing Belt Tensioner
Just wondering what type of tensioner I will need to replace my current one, as going to do the timing belt shortly.
Im told there are 2 different types but I cant see far enough behind the timing belt covers to have a loook Car is a november 97 built my98 wrx. This is as far as i can see, Water pump blocks everything to the left. |
If it ain't broke, dont fix it... I dont see why you would need a new tensioner?
If you are doing the timing belt yourself, I'd suggest dropping the radiator to provide better access to the belts |
tensioner is behind the centre plastics

if the tensioner is broken it will sound like a big end, you want to check the idler pulley after the tensioner though, they wear out

AFAIK it should be same as the one in this pic http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Timing-Belt-Tensioner-Kit-Subaru-Liberty-Forrester-/290453506450?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43a060c992

tensioner
The car is 13 years old,has not had a timing belt done, so if you do the timing belt you might as well change the waterpump and tensioner,I think the 97 tensioner is the long black cylinder type.
