Knocking After Suspension Swap DIY

I just swapped out my suspension in my my04 WRX. I replaced them with Sti Springs and Struts from a MY04 WRX.

I am now experiencing a knock in the Rear Left Strut, does anyone have any idea's where I could have gone wrong...

I havn't got a wheel alignment just yet, but I don't think that is it.

Feedback asap would be greatly appreciated.

You did tighten the strut top bolts with the car on the ground, didn't you?

If not, it could be that they're loose.. and when you go over a bump, you'll get a knocking sound from the strut assembly moving up and down.

hehe no i did not :P I'll Check it now.
I used a jack to jack up the struts, while I fitted them.

So you would suggest I remove all the top bolts while the car is on the ground and refit?

You don't have to remove the top bolts, just tighten them up when the car is on the ground :)

It could also possible be faulty shock absorbers, they had an issue with them knocking

hehe I hope not, I did get them of a guy on this forum :{
If this doesn't fix it, who should I be taking it to...
And if it is the shock, would the knocking be doing damage to the rest of the vehicle
??

wont be doing damage to the rest of the vehicle, but you may not be getting the full performance out of the shock
im pretty sure that maximum motorsport take them apart and re pack them with grease?
but dont quote me on that
i also think there are a couple diy's around to do it

Maximum Motorsports won't strip and repack sti struts there. I have just booked the car in with them for a 150k service. Going to get them to do the wheel alignment and inspect the strut monday nextweek ( assuming i cant correct the issue sooner )

Does anyone know anyone who will do the strut recondition?

Diy :)

pretty easy.. go do a search on rexnet under DIY technical on "struts grease". U will find informative picture guides there

Yeah I have had a look, and i have decided to give the repack a go, as I don't have any warranty on the struts. Anyone know what grease I should be packing them with, can't find any info.
Also not really sure on the torque setting for that locking bolt at the base of the strut. is it critical ? :P

Use Castrol LM Grease. Its High temp very smooth Lithium based greased.
